Teams and Groups
If you are part of a team or service group, consider volunteering together. We will put you all together at a Water Stop or somewhere around the stadium. - High school teams or groups should have 1 adult for every 10 high school students.
- Junior high teams or groups should have 1 adult for every 5 junior high students.
Positions

WATER-STOP
This position involves preparing cups of water and passing out water to runners. Volunteers should be prepared to get wet and have fun encouraging the runners along. Fairly intense during the big wave of runners. Groups will be responsible for set up and tear down of the water stations.
1-MILE COURSE
The people helping with the one mile will have various duties including set up, marshals, start crew and follow walkers.
FOOD
This job will include setting up the food at the end of the race, monitoring the tables and resupplying as needed, and post race clean up. Some lifting will be needed.
Course Marshals
Course Marshals will be responsible for an assigned location. They will monitor both traffic and runners during the race. Some major intersections will also be manned with Police. Marshals will stay at their assigned post until the completion of the event and can leave their posts only when instructed. Also people needed for the start. These people will be responsible for traffic access to the Crisler Parking Lot, for example.
Also, marshals may have one training meeting prior to the event. Date to be determined.
REGISTRATION
Packet pick up: Hand out race numbers and timing chips and t-shirts to pre-registered runners. This is a fast-paced job requiring accuracy and problem-solving.
Registration: Collect entry forms, check forms for accuracy in all required fields, assign a race number and timing chip, collect money, etc. Hand out t-shirts. This is a fast-paced job requiring accuracy and problem-solving.
EXPO SET-UP
Lots of physical work, including setting up and moving tables.
EXPO
Greeter - Work in teams of two to welcome visitors to the Health and Wellness Expo at the entrance. Direct participants to where they can locate their race number, pick up their packets and t-shirts, as well as guide them to the array of exhibit and sponsor tables. This opportunity requires that volunteers stand during the shift. If you’re a “people person,” this is a great volunteer opportunity for you!
Floater/Runner - Assist Health and Wellness Expo staff by visiting the exhibit and sponsor tables to ensure needs and inquiries are met, monitor the hospitality room, and deliver supplies as needed. Volunteers will also provide support wherever they may be needed. Volunteers should be eager to help and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Information Booth - Provide information and answer questions about the event, race routes, parking, etc. to the best of the volunteer’s ability. All information such as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and maps will be provided. Some knowledge of the local area is a plus.
Kids Area - Help coordinate in the special area just for kids – exciting activities such as face painting, balloons, bouncy house are just a few things that will be there. Volunteers will need to be able to assist the children as needed and ready to have fun!
SET-UP
Lots of physical work. On Saturday, for example, the work will include setting up and moving tables. On Race Day, the work will include setting up Aid Stations and delivering miscellaneous course materials – not quite as physical but still demanding
HOST AND INFORMATION
This job will be the source of all information concerning the race. The people working this area will need to be good at communicating with people. Generally, you will be directing people to starts, finishes, registration, bathrooms, etc. Also you will help in keeping the Tunnel clear during the Big House Big Heart race.
AWARDS
Prepare awards. - These individuals will work with the scorers of the events and the MC to get timely results posted and announced.
GREEN
These people will help make our event as green as possible by having recycle containers available and visible.
ACCESSIBILITY
Assist persons with disabilities on race day with accessible parking; directions on accessible pathways in/around the Stadium; directions to accessible restrooms; escort persons using wheelchairs/scooters on and off the field in coordination with tunnel staff; encourage persons with disabilities crossing the finish line and assist them in getting beverages/food; notify accessibility chair of special requests to coordinate response; encourage and if needed escort participants with disabilities down the tunnel; encourage and walk with persons with disabilities during the one mile.
EXPO TEAR DOWN
The reverse of set up. This crew will have a lot of physical labor – carrying tables, tearing down stages, cleaning up trash, etc.

STARTING LINE
People will hold mile pace markers and keep runners organized.
FINISH LINE
These volunteers are responsible for passing out finisher certificates and also for sweeping the chute to make sure the finish line doesn’t get backed up. (Finish line sweepers need to be willing to be assertive on occasion.)
CLEAN UP
Need an eye for detail, will help make sure everything is picked up from, for example, the stadium floor, the stands, etc.
TRUCK UNLOAD
Take all the equipment from the race back to the truck and unload.
